Feb. 17 | Spend a Semester Studying in New Orleans with Magnolia Project
Magnolia Project at UC Berkeley http://publicservice.berkeley.edu/magnoliaproject and The University of New Orleans (UNO) are recruiting Cal students for a semester-long exchange program for study in fall 2012!
The exchange allows Cal students to take 2 courses at UNO and intern 20 hours/week with a community based organization.While supporting a community agency through internship activities, students will engage in a community-based research (CBR) project at their internship site with the support of a UC Berkeley faculty member. CBR projects will take place at host sites participating in our 4-year old community advisory group and include research opportunities with city, university, and nonprofit offices. Current 3rd or 4th year UC Berkeley undergraduates in good standing. Students are responsible for meeting with financial aid and academic advisers before the application deadline to ensure aid and credit will transfer!

The Gilman Scholarship Program broadens the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. The program aims to encourage students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards of up to $5,000 for undergraduate study abroad. In addition, students studying Arabic (all dialects), Chinese (all dialects), Bahsasa Indonesia, Japanese, Turkic (Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgz, Turkish, Turkmen, Uzbek), Persian, Indic (Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Sinhala, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi), Korean, Russian, or Swahili may be eligible for an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement.

PHAP is a competitive, two-year, paid fellowship within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for recent baccalaureate college graduates. Public Health Associates are assigned to state, tribal, local and territorial public health agencies and hold positions that are functionally indistinguishable from their local colleagues. Upon completion of the two-year program, graduates will be qualified for permanent positions in federal, state, tribal, local and territorial public health agencies.
Prospective associates may apply to the Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) online between mid-February and early March. Additional supporting documents are required, including academic transcripts and letters of recommendation.
